Friends
I have friends in overalls
whose friendship I would not swap
for the favor of the kings of the world
whose friendship I would not swap
for the favor of the kings of the world
- Thomas A. Edison
by K.J. Hoppee
Come walk with me, my friend
As we journey down friendship's lane
Basking in the delights of today's triumphs
Vowing to stand firmly in tomorrow's defeats.
Let laughter guide our way, my friend
Knowing that we have each other
Though storm clouds gather in the distance
Our confidence and trust need not waiver.
Always smile through the tears, my friend
For pain diminishes as we walk side by side
Whether journeying through the lowly valley
Or scaling the mountain to its majestic crest.
Hurdle past each obstacle, my friend
For in many of life's circumstances
Happiness is not found in abundance but quality
May our faith continually soar with eagles.
Choose wisely who you travel with, my friend
Walk with someone who expects nothing in return
Who has words of comfort without speaking
Genuinely seek such a friend, and you will find Him.
I realize this picture is a little...well, unusual? unique? or (perhaps to you) disgusting? I'll let you decide; however, it will prove my point. Genuine friends are seldom wrapped in beautiful packages but are what most would call, common folk. These friends are in our lives for the long haul - encouraging us, loving us (no matter the circumstances), and ready to carry us in our darkest trials. If you wish, you can prefer the friends in royal attire that are flashy and splashy but I prefer the friends who wear blue denim. Must clarify that I do have one friend that wears royalty. He is someone one that we all should call "Friend".

Because of Angels

Aren't there times when you wish the news would just go away? In the day in which we live, it's the "wrongs" not the "rights" that make headlines. Praises for doing good just aren't mentioned. People thrive on the negatives. Just stand in line at the supermarket and read the headlines on the magazine covers, then tell me it isn't so. Sensationalism is number one - and we must be careful to guard ourselves so that we do not enter into this realm.
Well, enough said of the negatives, let's talk about the positives. Most of my positives are better known as "angels" - ones who bring forth pure words and allow others dignity and honor. Oft times when battling "lowliness," an angel has and does visit me in the form of a card, a note, or a phone call (even an email or texting). This heavenly communication guides me through a dreary day. The words spoken or written are not necessarily catchy or prophetical in nature but ones that convey love. A call to say I'm thinking of you. A text written, closing with the words I love you. A note saying, "You are special, and we care." Sincerity scrawled upon paper, acknowledging genuine concern. Not the inventions of long, well-tailored communication, but purity fabricated from the heart. In particular, I am drawn to a note received in 1984, scratched in pencil on a torn half-sheet of ruled paper. It said, in part, "Not fancy paper I know but like our walk with God, it's what's on the inside that counts . . . We go separate ways most times . . . but friends are special people and not always together . . . but yet, always there." This friend has never left my side and is always in my heart. And even though we have not seen each other physically for 15 years, she still remains one of my angels because she "winged" by at a time when my world was broken into a million pieces.
Today, because of Angels, I can smile, I can laugh, I can cry, I can love, I can travel through the darkness - for my special angels are friends who "loveth" at all times. The holidays are approaching so why not take time to be someone's angel. I'll guarantee a tender brush of genuine care is just what a lonely, hurting soul needs to help them soar.

Silence My Heart
We need to find God, and He cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass - grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls.

Friends
Guess you are wondering why I picked a picture of two little pigs rutting in the mud to capture my thought. Look closely at the little oinkers. Why they’re as happy as can be; making the best of their circumstances. See the smiles on their faces? Now that’s friendship. (Appease me please and pretend you see them smiling or my blog is to no avail).
Lately my mind (what’s left of it) has been fixed on friends (i.e., tall ones, short ones, fluffy ones, thin ones, high volume ones, quiet ones, beautiful ones and stating it politically correct, facially challenged ones). Seriously, my friends are all beautiful. True friends always are. Here’s a poem I wrote that I want to share with them today.

My friend knows when to knock at the door
Bringing words of comfort making my spirit soar.
My friend knows when to send a note to uplift
Penning a message of more value than any costly gift.
My friend knows when to offer words that inspire
Speaking truths that allow me to escape from life’s mire.
My friend knows when to petition with genuine weeping
Requesting special care for my soul’s safe keeping.

My friend is known as special, one who is always there
Having such a friend gives me a jewel divinely rare.
THANK YOU TO ALL MY DEAR FRIENDS for always being there for me. I LOVE YOU. You fill my life with valuable substance and reinforce the scripture, “a friend loveth at all times . . .” Proverbs 17:17.
Having such a friend gives me a jewel divinely rare.
