Deep Roots on a Windy Day

It has been quite windy here, and after getting blown all over creation (as you can tell I exaggerate), a thought came to mind. (By the way, they are Santa Ana Winds so they are a little strong, and do they dry out the plants!). Back to my story: Winds make me think of how much we need "Deep Roots on a Windy Day" in our living for the Lord.

Recently I had occasion to be with a wonderful lady whose spiritual roots run very deep. She has faced much disappointment and adversity in her life but oh what a joy it is when opportunity allows me to be with her. She is so genuine, and asks for no praise, no glorifying words – she just “straight talks”, and in so doing, offers precious old fashion counsel. She could elevate herself and remain aloof (she is deserving of that); however, no pedestal or platform for her. This precious soul makes me think of Ruth of the Bible.

I love the story of Ruth. Ruth stood her ground even in the midst of great adversity and not once wavered. One of her remarkable attributes was consistency, which placed her head-and-shoulders above the other women around her. She labored, she sacrificed, she never complained, and in the end, she choose to go with Naomi. She stayed on the solid pathway. Ruth knew what was right and what she should ask of life. You heard correctly - a godly woman always checks with the Lord as to her comings and goings. Thank God, my dear friend and mentor has such qualities; therefore, I am always blessed when we meet.

Which leads me to the other side. Unfortunately, not everyone we come in contact with, blesses us. We all know women who are lead by every wind that's blowing - never consistent but following after every new concept or idea. You might call them our present day "Eves". Eves are curious in the way our Garden (of Eden) Eve was. Now don’t get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with curiosity if properly channeled - curiosity that allows us to go beyond the scope of eyesight and sporadic actions. If our curiosity takes us to a place of deep convictions (roots) then when deceit's “forbidden fruit” comes to our door, we will correctly handle the matter.

With all my heart I believe the Lord want us to be grounded, having roots firmly planted in Him. He doesn't need us to be tossed to and fro by every so-called principle or trendy religious concept. Well, I’ve said enough (in fact, maybe too much) but I desire deep roots. I want to stand during the storms of life, no matter what their portion. I want peace and be able to offer trustworthy words to others. I want to stand as our Bible Ruth did – unified to His cause.

Without? God's Fault. If With? Our Doing

I find it interesting that the meanest life,

the poorest existence

is attributed to God's will

BUT

as. . .beings become more affluent,

as living standard and style
begin to ascent the material scale,

God descends the scale of responsibility.

You Ask???

Someone asked me why I posted "Curses & More Curses"
and want to refrain from "the bestest of foods".
Well, here's a recent photo.

Now do you understand why?
In fact, this photo is hiding a multitude of "sins",
as several of my fluffy layers are out of view.

Curses & More Curses

Why in the world do we make ourselves believe that we must not "waste" food because there are those starving around the world? Unfortunately, I was so brainwashed by my mother that I "waist" everything! Okay, it's got to stop!

Bring on them fruits and veggies. I'm (almost) ready for 'em.

Help Eliminate Poverty

Hope Does Not Automatically Come to All.
We as God's people must ask ourselves: Are we sharing the Good News? Are we delivering the message of hope to others? True the world will always have physical poverty but we can help to eliminate spiritual poverty. Our hearts need to burn with the desire to do so. If not, God help us!

Melody Making

Eph 5.19 “…singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”

Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us.

Lord, Is It I?

Judas Iscariot, 1891 German painting

With this Easter season upon us what better time to reflect on our walk with the Lord. Are we true disciples in the purest sense, or are we as Judas, a face with an impure heart? I pray my poem speaks my heart - because in my living as a "disciple of Christ", I must know more than ever before that I have totally given Him what is most important – MY VERY ALL!!!

Absolutely not!
No, not I,
Never would I the Lord deny!

Definitely a mistake!!
There’s no truth to the claim,
That I would to the Lord bring shame!!

Truly absurd!!!
No, I never could,
Nail the Lord to a gnarled place of wood!!!

Completely false!!?
Why, He’s the center of all my needs,
Even though I don’t answer all His pleads!!?

You don’t make sense!?
You’ve unquestionably lost all reason,
I plan on giving Him my all in proper season!?

No, surely not?
Could I ever deny?
Oh no, dear Lord, truly is it I?

Happy Birthday Pastor

(Couldn't put this post on any sooner as tonight's service was a surprise birthday celebration for our Pastor - and the church wanted him to think we'd forgotten his 62nd birthday). Well, now's the time to give honor to whom honor is due. Sorry no pictures, my camera didn't cooperate.

Happy Birthday, Pastor Rick Keyes. You are truly an extraordinary man of God, and what a privilege to call you Pastor. Thank you for your patience, love and understanding - and for helping guide us diligently into our rightful places in the Lord's ministry. May we always desire to be an extension of your heart and your burden for the work of God.

We saints of Revival Tabernacle are truly blessed!

Beware ID Theft!

My friend Sera just sent me an email alert, and I had to share:
BEWARE OF IDENTITY THEFT THIS EASTER!!!

Thanks Sera, you made my day.

Apostles of Hope

Tradition has it that white lilies (often called "white-robed apostles of hope) were found growing in the Garden of Gethsemane where drops of Christ's sweat fell to the ground in his final hours of sorrow and deep distress.
Each time we see an Easter Lily, may we think on the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the hope He has given us through life everlasting.
