Let the Winds Blow

We cannot stop the wind from blowing
....but, we can set our sails,
....so it helps us on our way.

the inspirational words of Joan Walsh Anglund
quote from Crocus In The Snow, A Book of Poems

Have you ever noticed in a harbor full of small sailboats all going in different directions? Yet the wind is blowing in just one direction. Yes, it is the set of our sail.

I used to sail when I was young and I totally understand about setting sail.

Mervi, Appreciate your words. Reminds me of the San Francisco Bay which is filled with sailboats on windy days - each one traveling on its path (never in a precise pattern). It just validates that we sail differently on life's sea but in the end hope to moor in the same place.

Catherine, How exciting to have sailed. It takes certain skill to navigate your course - and I am sure you parallel it to life often.

Another great analogy. I enjoy being on the water. There are so many lessons to be learned there... the wind, the waves, the depth... God is so good to us! We get to "learn" and enjoy all at the same time!

Years ago, my dad had a quote on the back of his business card. I'm not sure who wrote it, and not sure if I have it right but it went something like this -
One ship sails east and another west by the selfsame winds that blow, tis the set of the sails and not the gales that determine which way it goes.

This post made me think of my daddy. I miss him.

Oh, and as we travel on the way that God intended! The storms certainly come and we don't feel like we will ever get through, but the reward of going straight ahead! Kerman has set a straight course for overr 7 1/2 years, and you talk about the winds and storms, but amazing, the last month, REVIVAL!!!! Not a special speaker, but a special God! People recieving the Holy Ghost every service. We are at home now and just got a call that at youth service, another young teen just recived the Holy Ghost minutes ago...Praise God! There is an atmosphere that is unbelievable. I have to say, that it has been worht it all, every crashing wave, every lightning bolt that blinded us for a short time, Those of you who have the winds blowing even now....Set the sail straight and remember that He will come through! No matter what it is, If we have set the sail in the direction that He intended, He is faithful.

Rochelle, Seems we have the same appreciation for the sea, and how the Lord can speak to us through its various moods.

Jana, What a great quote. Your father was a wonderful man who my husband and I respected and loved so much.

Susan, I am so excited for you and your church. You and Stephen are so deserving of revival fires. It will continue, and we will continue to rejoice. Love you, Aunt Karen

that quote is also one of my favorites along with the rest of the second half of that poem, by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

One ship sails East,
And another West,
By the self-same winds that blow,
'Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales,
That tells the way we go.

Like the winds of the sea
Are the waves of time,
As we journey along through life,
'Tis the set of the soul,
That determines the goal,
And not the calm or the strife.

Anonymous,
Thank you for finishing the quote. It adds so much.
