A Nail in a Sure Place

A Nail in a Sure Place
by K.J. Hopper
A nail modestly glistens in the morning light,
it having been painstakingly anchored to the wall.

It will act as a security, to brace up my structure
assuring me protection from unseen dangers.

My hopes and dreams are stabilized by its steadiness
This is my support, a nail secured in a sure place.

How important for us to make sure that our structures will not be damaged by the winds that are blowing all about. Everything that can be shaken (from its foundation) is being or will be shaken. We need to check our mortal building to make sure that it can withstand what comes our way. Remember, we can be Secure in Him - that is, if that is our desire.

Great post, Karen.

Before I scrolled down, I saw the picture of the nail. It reminded me that one year my Dad cut small pieces of wood and sanded them so they would be smooth. He then drove a single nail about a quarter of inch in to each block before he bent then nail over and pounded it into the wood lengthwise. He put a thin coat of varnish over each one.

At church one Sunday before Easter, he gave them out, explaining that a person could keep the small block in his pocket or purse and run his/her finger over the nail from time to time as a reminder of the nails that held Jesus to the cross.

Mine's in the drawer of my night stand. I need to look it out.

My mind went to the cross too. I need to remind myself daily that Jesus died for me but also that my flesh need to be crucified if I'm gonna make it.

Key words - "If that is our desire." I loved the project Helen's dad did. We should all remember the cross often.

Helen,
What your dad did is priceless. You need to write a blog on what he did, with pictures. How inspiring your comments.

Catherine,
Beautiful thought.

Jana,
Helen's dad certainly had great insight. Just think, she is reminded to this day by his illustration. Powerful.

Aunt Karen , this is a great thought! With the winds blowinfg from every direction we need to stand firm in Jesus. Though some days I feel like the picture you have in your "Hows your day going?" post. LOL!

I thought of the cross but I also thought of the verse that says we have a great cloud of witnesses watching us. If we allow the wind to blow us off course then others will be blown off course as well.

Kevin,
With the happenings all about us, how important it is that we stay anchored, secure in His keeping.

This post reminded me of a sermon my dad preaches with the same title, "A Nail in a Sure Place".

He preaches that we can hang our worries, troubles and fears on Jesus, knowing that when we trust in Him we can be sure everything will be alright.

We don't put our trust in ourselves or others, but in Christ Jesus. Just as the nails held him, so He will hold us in a sure place.

Thanks for the reminder. I needed that.

Shannon,
Like the idea of hanging our cares on Jesus. PS: Hope you are all well once again in the Evans household.
